It’s easy to want to turn the buffer up. In my opinion, the best results happen when the buffer is turned down. Use a good wool pad and compound, and keep the buffer around 800 or 900 rpm’s. Keeping the panel cool will let the scratches and all the texture and grain come out of the clear.  Getting the panel hot only makes a better chance of the clear pinching up, or scratches swelling up under the paint.
